Jennifer Lopez Says She’s ‘Back in My Rom-Com Era’ as She Prepares to Launch Office Romance with Brett Goldstein

Jennifer Lopez is reflecting on her romantic comedy bona fides

Over 20 years after Maid in Manhattan, costarring Lopez, 56, and Ralph Fiennes, hit theaters, the actress-musician reflected on her “wonderful memories” in a Friday, April 10 Instagram post getting fans excited for her next rom-com, Office Romance.

Some never before seen BTS on the set of Maid in Manhattan by the incredible @BarryWetcher,” wrote Lopez, shouting out the photographer and sharing many of his snaps of the star with Fiennes, Stanley Tucci and the late Bob Hoskins and Natasha Richardson.

So many feelings! Such wonderful memories!” continued her caption. “And now with Office Romance, I am back in my RomCom era. It’s OUR Happy Era!!!”

Due from Netflix this summer, director Ol Parker’s Office Romance stars Lopez and Brett Goldstein as her onscreen love interest, plus Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris and Edward James Olmos. The film was written by Joe Kelly and Goldstein, 45, and produced by Lopez.

“It’s not the typical JLo rom-com that you are used to, like the sweet wholesomeness,” Lopez teased to Andy Cohen on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live last October. “It’s a little raunchy. It’s like the jokes are little — think more like Knocked Up… [There’s] Something About Mary,” she said, referencing the hit R-rated comedies

Maid in Manhattan arrived during what Lopez would probably call her first rom-com era, amid 2001’s The Wedding Planner, 2003’s Gigli, 2004’s Jersey Girl and even 2005’s Monster-in-Law. She returned to the genre with 2022’s Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me

On Thursday, April 9, Lopez further celebrated her Maid in Manhattan character in another Instagram post. “Twenty-something years later and I still think about Marisa Ventura,” she wrote. “A single mom who moved through marble lobbies and thread-count sheets that weren’t hers…but carried herself like they could be.”

Office Romance is expected to debut on Netflix this summer. Lopez starred in Kiss of the Spider-Woman last year and had an uncredited cameo in Anaconda. She also stars in the upcoming The Last Mrs. Parrish.
