Sydney Sweeney has been slammed after she made her return to the small screen in Euphoria dressed as a dog.
The 28-year-old actress reprised her role as Cassie Howard in the third season of the hit HBO series, and was seen panting on all fours and shaking her rear as she filmed content for her OnlyFans account. Cassie first appeared on screen as the song (How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window? played. Her canine costume was complete with a bodysuit, tail and a pair of ears. She barked, drank out of a dog’s water bowl and even bit into a sneaker.
As viewers tuned into the episode, fans rushed to X to share their disgust at Sweeney as one person wrote, “god she is a terrible actress,” and another said, “Nah Sydney Sweeney signed up for bulls–t this is humiliating.”

“Has sydney sweeney not tortured herself and all of us enough?” questioned another, while someone else claimed, “sydney sweeney you are an embarrassment to women.”“Nah Sydney Sweeney signed up for a humiliation ritual this is crazy,” another viewer suggested, as Euphoria creator Sam Levinson received backlash for the scene too.
“I never thought I would ever care about Sydney Sweeney ever again but somehow Sam Levinson has somehow made me feel bad for her. Just why?” wrote another in response.
“Sam Levinson must HATEE sydney sweeney jesus christ,” added another.
“The first scene of Sydney Sweeney in this third season premiere episode of Euphoria kind of sums up all of Sam Levinson’s problems as a filmmaker,” wrote one more critic.
During the scene, Cassie’s fiancé Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, was seen returning home and immediately questioned what she was doing as she dropped a dog toy out of her mouth. Cassie confirmed that she was “just creating content” and that “people make money doing this” before Nate accused her of being a prostitute.
“You’re not a doggie, you’re a grown woman,” he fumed.
A voiceover by Zendaya’s character Rue Bennett explained that Nate has taken over the Jacobs’ family business following the arrest of his father, Cal Jacobs, played by the late Eric Dane. She also noted that Cassie is “dreaming big” about the upcoming wedding, leading her to create an OnlyFans account as an extra source of income.
In another scene, Cassie explained to Nate that she wants to start an OnlyFans account to pay for a more expensive floral arrangement for their nuptials. He expressed his disapproval, to which she responded, “We have a really big problem.” He conceded that she can make the account, but only if she doesn’t reveal her “pretty face.”
And it seems there will be more OnlyFans scenes to come in season three as fans recently threatened to boycott Euphoria when a new teaser clip showed Cassie dressed up as a baby as she filmed content.
Sydney Sweeney’s new American Eagle ad addresses last year’s ‘Great Jeans’ controversy in the most Sydney Sweeney way

Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle have teamed up for a new ad campaign for the brand’s denim shorts.

In a video shared on social, Sweeney says, “What brand am I wearing? Yeah, that one.”

It’s a sly wink at the 2025 “Great Jeans” controversy, and a classic move from Sweeney’s PR playbook.
Sydney Sweeney has unveiled her second American Eagle campaign using her now-signature move: a sly wink at the camera.
Nearly nine months after the brand’s “Great Jeans” campaign sparked online outrage, Sweeney reunited with American Eagle to promote its new denim shorts collection. The campaign, dubbed “Syd for Short,” hit socials and newsstands on Wednesday with a short video starring Sweeney in her element, looking as beautiful and inscrutable as ever.
“What brand am I wearing?” Sweeney asks the camera, positioned mid-frame against a blue-sky backdrop. With a shrug and a cheeky smile, she gives a non-answer to her own question: “Yeah, that one.”
The line only makes sense as a reference to Sweeney’s existing association with American Eagle. Their 2025 collaboration drew intense backlash for a pun that conflated Sweeney’s white, blue-eyed beauty with preferable genetics. Critics described the ad campaign as a “eugenics dog whistle,” while fans suggested it was a cheeky double entendre with little deeper meaning. Amid the discourse, American Eagle’s stock price soared, and Sweeney’s public profile along with it.
Whatever headaches the “Great Jeans” campaign may have caused Sweeney’s PR team, the headline-dominating discourse made her more of a household name — as did her refusal to apologize for being at the center of it.
As PR experts told me at the time, Sweeney’s reputation for stirring up controversy is likely intentional. Whether she’s talking about her “great jeans” or hawking a soap that purports to be made with her actual bathwater, Sweeney has garnered a fan base not just for her acting work, but for her polite refusal to explain the reasoning behind her more controversial choices.
Her responses in a now-infamous November 2025 GQ interview where she addressed the “Great Jeans” campaign were either provocative or oblivious, depending on how you read her delivery.
“I’ve always believed that I’m not here to tell people what to think. I’m just here to kind of open their eyes to different ideas,” she told the magazine.
Two months later, Sweeney told Cosmopolitan that as a person “in the arts,” she shouldn’t be expected to comment on politics. Instead, she offered a platitude: “I believe we should all love each other and have respect and understanding for one another.”
With “Syd for Short,” Sweeney takes a page from the same playbook: gesture toward the mess, but don’t wade in. Let the fans and critics speculate on your intent.
Those following Sweeney’s moves have had plenty to dissect lately. The American Eagle campaign comes days after the season three premiere of “Euphoria,” in which Sweeney plays Cassie Howard, a young woman whose humiliating desperation for male attention has made her a lightning rod for thinkpieces since the series debuted in 2019.
The first episode of the new season sees Sweeney’s Cassie pursuing a career on OnlyFans dressed as a sexy puppy, complete with floppy ears, a heart-shaped nose, and a cleavage-baring brown corset.
While the internet lit up with debates over everything from the scene’s morality to what it says about Cassie’s increasingly shallow and fetishized characterization, Sweeney stayed silent.
Or perhaps she’d once again let the brands do the talking: the corset she wears in Cassie’s sexy puppy scene is from her own lingerie line.

Sydney Sweeney debuts new American Eagle ad after ‘good jeans’ backlash
Sydney Sweeney is back with a new American Eagle partnership — but is it as controversial as her “good jeans” campaign?
On Wednesday, the clothing company unveiled its latest ad with the Euphoria actor — this time, for jean shorts. The new video, posted online by the brand, features various shots of Sweeney (now sporting a shorter bob) wearing denim cutoffs as part of a variety of beachy, summertime outfits.
It’s unclear whether the ad is a wink to the controversy of her previous campaign. In the video, Sweeney asks, “What brand am I wearing?” before replying with, “Yeah. That one.”
The video is captioned “Syd for short,” a play on Sweeney’s nickname.
Many commenters praised the video. One person wrote: “Glad to see AE didn’t bend the knee to the haters. You look fabulous, Sydney!” Another added: “I looove how you [sic] just trolling that haters.” A third noted that Sweeney is “not just gorgeous, but smart.”
“I’d never even heard of her before these ads came out and now she’s everywhere,” they commented.
Sweeney’s previous American Eagle campaign dropped in July 2025, to significant backlash. In one ad from the campaign, evocative of Brooke Shields’ controversial 1980 Calvin Klein commercial, Sweeney pulls on a pair of pants as she says, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue.” A voiceover then says, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
The video was criticized by some for promoting genetic superiority. Others hit back at the claims, alleging the ad was just a pun — not a secret dogwhistle for white supremacists.
President Trump praised Sweeney’s “good jeans” video online: “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves,’” he wrote in a Truth Social post in August 2025. “Go get ’em Sydney!”
Sweeney did not immediately respond to the backlash. In an interview with GQ in November 2025, when asked about the ad’s divisiveness, the star of The Housemaid told the reporter: “I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”
In December 2025, she further explained her stance to People. “I was honestly surprised by the reaction,” she said. “I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren’t true. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m always trying to bring people together. I’m against hate and divisiveness.”
Sweeney is currently making waves for a very different outfit she wears in the third-season premiere of Euphoria. In the episode, which premiered on April 12, her character, Cassie, dresses as a dog — complete with a corset, dog ears and a tail — to create social media content she hopes will help her pay for her upcoming wedding to Nate (Jacob Elordi). One person commented on Sweeney’s latest American Eagle ad: “They make shorts for dogs now?”Show comments
Sydney Sweeney Boldly Rejoins American Eagle, Sends Brutal Message To Haters After ‘Great Jeans’ Scandal
Sydney Sweeney has once again found herself at the center of an online debate after making a bold return to American Eagle in a new ad campaign.
The actress appeared in the brand’s latest summer ad, referencing last year’s “great jeans” controversy and continuing her partnership with American Eagle.
Her comeback also marks a time when she is also facing renewed scrutiny over her sultry look in season 3 of Euphoria, with both moments fueling fresh reactions across social media.
“Back in the spotlight like nothing happened—she knows how to keep the attention,” one user wrote.

In the latest campaign titled Syd for Short: American Eagle Jean Shorts, Sweeney appeared modelling denim cutoffs in a relaxed, beachside setting.
The campaign, launched for Summer 2026, focused on everyday styling, featuring the actress in casual looks.
In the video, she playfully asked, “What brand am I wearing?” before answering her own question with a subtle nod to the past controversy, “Yeah… that one.”

The moment was widely seen as a direct reference to her 2025 campaign, which had sparked intense debate online.
Despite previous backlash, the brand doubled down on its partnership.

“There’s something timeless about a great pair of jean shorts… they make you feel confident without trying too hard,” Sweeney said in a statement.
The campaign also continued its collaboration with Crisis Text Line, with proceeds from select denim pieces supporting mental health initiatives.

Sweeney’s first campaign with American Eagle, released in July 2025, featured the tagline “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” a play on “genes.”
The ad quickly went viral, but reactions were sharply divided. While some critics accused the campaign of promoting ideas linked to eugenics and exclusionary beauty standards, few compared it to “Nazi propaganda.”
American Eagle responded on August 1, stating, “ ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans… Great jeans look good on everyone.”

Despite the controversy, the campaign proved commercially successful. The brand reported strong sales, with denim pieces selling out and the ad contributing to increased revenue and visibility.
However, online reactions remain split following Sweeney’s comeback.
“American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney really turned a ‘controversial’ moment into a multi-billion impression powerhouse,” one user wrote.

“Controversy? That campaign sold out in 48 hours. American Eagle knew exactly what they were doing,” another added.
Others were more critical. “She has absolutely no acting talent whatsoever,” one comment read, while another said, “I’m glad American Eagle has made it very clear where they stand.”
Sweeney also addressed the ad campaign scrutiny and explained her silence

As reported by Bored Panda, Sweeney admitted she was surprised by the campaign’s reaction in a December 2025 interview with People.
“I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign,” she said.
She also acknowledged that staying silent may have worsened the situation.
“In the past, my stance has been to never respond… but I’ve realized my silence has only widened the divide,” she explained.

She emphasized that her intentions were never political. “I’m against hate and divisiveness… I hope we focus more on what connects us.”
In an earlier interview with GQ in November 2025, she took a more neutral stance, saying, “I did a jean ad… I know who I am… I don’t let other people define who I am.”

Her responses themselves became part of the conversation, with some viewers calling them dismissive, while others defended her approach.
“It wasn’t controversial at all, just people looking for something to hate,” one user wrote.
“Good for her. Capitalizing over drama just like the rest of celebrities,” another added.
Sweeney’s American Eagle ad also comes amid fresh backlash over Euphoria season 3

Sweeney has been facing criticism over her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria season 3, which premiered on April 12, 2026.
Several scenes from the first episode sparked backlash, particularly those involving her character filming explicit content in exaggerated scenarios.
In one scene, Cassie appeared wearing a collar and leash while acting out a roleplay sequence, while another showed her dressed in a baby-like outfit.
“This is literally disgusting,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “Some scenes were clearly unnecessary and intended to humiliate her.”

Others questioned her involvement. “How can Sydney Sweeney agree to do something like this?” one comment read.
However, not all reactions were negative.
“Girl, it’s called acting,” one user wrote. “She’s playing a messy character on a show that’s always been wild.”
Sweeney herself addressed her reaction to the storyline at the Los Angeles premiere on April 8, saying, “I called Sam [Levinson] and went, ‘Oh my god.’ It was a big exhale.”
She had also previously described returning to the show as “comforting,” noting her long connection with the cast and crew, via Variety.
“She’s not afraid of doing this again,” wrote one user
