Josh Duggar returns to court as appeal process continues, weeks after brother Joseph’s arrest
Josh Duggar has made another court appearance as he continues efforts to challenge his prison sentence.
The 38 year old attended a hearing on April 15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, joining virtually from a prison facility in Dallas.
According to reports, the session focused largely on whether required documents for his appeal were filed within the correct timeframe. A ruling is expected in the coming weeks.
Josh is currently serving a sentence that is set to run until December 2032.
He was convicted in 2021 on charges related to the receipt and possession of child exploitation material, and has since made multiple unsuccessful attempts to overturn the decision. This latest
move follows the appointment of a new attorney.
The hearing comes shortly after a separate legal situation involving his younger brother, Joseph Duggar, who was arrested in March.
The 31 year old faces charges linked to alleged inappropriate conduct involving a minor, tied to incidents said to have taken place during a 2020 family trip.
Joseph has denied the accusations and requested a jury trial. After being extradited to Florida, he was later released on bond and returned to Arkansas, where he reunited with his wife, Kendra Duggar.
Days after the arrest, Josh addressed the situation through his legal team, expressing concern for his brother.
“Josh Duggar does not know the details of the claims that have been made against his brother, Joseph. But, he knows the media frenzy that any incident regarding his family creates,” his lawyer said.
“He feels for his brother because everything is amplified out of proportion by the media interest in his family. This makes the pain of the criminal justice process exponentially worse.”
The statement continued, “Josh prays for his brother. And hopes that he can stay strong.
He too has felt the crushing wave of accusation that is powered by the media spectacle to which his family is subjected.”
His attorney also described him as “deeply saddened” by the situation, while criticizing what was called “false accusations” and the impact of public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Josh’s wife, Anna Duggar, also reached out to Joseph during his time in custody, offering support.
“You’ve got our prayers. We love you, however we can help, please let us know,” she wrote.
“Please let me know if I can help get things set up so you can call and talk with Kendra. Just remember, don’t talk about anything legal unless you are with an attorney.”
