NFL reporter Dianna Russini resigns from the Athletic after bombshell Page Six photos of her with Patriots’ Mike Vrabel
Dianna Russini has resigned from her role at The Athletic following public scrutiny linked to photos of her with Mike Vrabel.
In a letter addressed to Executive Editor Steven Ginsberg, Russini confirmed she is stepping down before her contract was set to end on June 30.
“I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published,” she wrote, while acknowledging the support she initially received from her employer.
She pointed to growing speculation in the media as a key reason for her decision.
“This media frenzy is hurtling forward without regard for the review process,” she stated, adding that she had no intention of allowing the situation to define her career.
Russini explained that stepping away was a way to limit further attention around the issue, not an acceptance of the narrative surrounding it.
Ginsberg later confirmed her resignation in a memo to staff, noting that she chose to leave while an internal review was still ongoing.
He said the organization would continue examining her work as part of its editorial standards process.
The situation followed the publication of photos showing Russini and Vrabel together at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona.
According to reports, the two were seen spending time at the hotel’s restaurant, pool area, and a private rooftop space.
Both addressed the images publicly. Vrabel described the interaction as “completely innocent,” while Russini said the photos did not reflect the presence of a larger group, adding that journalists often meet sources outside formal settings.
